Customer Reviews

I recently had to install replacement smoke and carbon monoxide fixtures in my house, and decided to update some of my tool kit while I was at it.
This is an nice, simple, decently priced collection of devices.
The Pen AC detector: I've used it to check for live circuits before unwiring the old detectors and putting the new ones up. Just a couple weeks ago I used it to check out a doorbell transformer, to make sure it was well and truly cut off to power before fiddling with it. (Why installers don't mark which circuit breakers these things are /on/ is a mystery to me.) The pen is very useful because it will tell if a wire is hot without needing a complete ciruit.
The Voltmeter is a very basic unit. Not something you'd want to use for work on mission critical circuit building or, say, diagnosis of a killbot, but for work about the home it is perfect. It's also an nice supplement to a more expensive and higher grade Voltmeter. Less money out of your pocket if this one disappears, slips out of your hand and shatters on the floor 15 ft below, or dies because you forgot to treat it nicely.
The GFCI outlet diagnoser has helped me identify a garage GFCI outlet that has the hot and neutral reversed. It also has a built in test function. I appreciate this because it gives me a bit more piece of mind to have something /external/ to the outlet test it. Since I, and the faulty toaster that might be zapping me, are external to the outlet. As opposed to the built in test button on the GFCI master outlet.
All very handy items.
My only complaints are:
The Voltmeter has an integrated wire, so you're limited to the probes connected to it unless you get creative.
The construction of the bag it comes with and the Voltmeter are both a bit cheap.
Both of the above are understandable due to the total price of the combo.
